Staff Sergeant Nicole M. Richter was born and raised in Schaumburg, Illinois. She enlisted into the Army in February 2003 as a (92G) Food Service Specialist, and in 2007 she reclassed to become a (31B) Military Police.  Previous assignments include, HHC 1st Armored Division, Wiesbaden, Germany; 500th MP Detachment, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; 984th MP Company, Ft. Carson, Colorado; A. Company 2-60th Infantry Battalion, Ft. Jackson, South Carolina (Drill Sergeant); 58th Military Police Company and 13th Military Police Detachment, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. She currently serves as a Military Science Advisor here at the University of Kansas.

Additionally, Staff Sergeant Richter deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004-2005) and Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (2009-2010)

Among Staff Sergeant Richter’s awards and decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters) Army Achievement Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Navy and Marine Corps Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (with 2 Stars), Iraqi Campaign Medal (with 1 Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral III) and the NATO Medal. SSG Richter’s Unit awards include The Valorous Unit Award (1 Oak Leaf Cluster) and The Meritorious Unit Citation.

Staff Sergeant Richter has earned her Drill Sergeant Identification Badge and Combat Action Badge. She has attended many Military Schools; Combat Life Savers Course (2004), Basic Leader’s Course (2007), Inter-service Nonlethal Individual Weapons Instructor Course (2008), Domestic Violence Intervention Training Course (2008), Child Abuse Prevention and Investigative Techniques Course (2008), Military Police Advanced Leader’s Course (2010), Drill Sergeant School (2011), Combatives Level 1 (2011), Army Basic Instructor Course (2011), Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (2011), Master Resilience Training Course (2011), Combatives Level 2 (2015), Monadnock Instructor Course (2016)  and Suicide Intervention Training (2016)
